Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has revealed its new flagship smartphone called the Xiaomi MI5.
The device impressed many during the launch with a combination of impressive features and an affordable price tag of $350 for its home market. The phone was revealed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona. One of the most notable things about the phone is the stylish design that makes it look as premium as the other counterparts launched at the event such as the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Xiaomi went a step further and made three versions of three versions of the device. The premium version will feature a 3D ceramic back cover, and it will be powered by a 2.15 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The mid version of the MI5 will also feature the same processor as the premium version, but the back cover will be a 3D glass cover. The third offering of the MI5 will feature a 1.8 GHz Snapdragon processor with a 3D glass back cover.
All the offerings willhave the latest Android operating system and many appealing specs such as 4 GB of usable flash storage (UFS) and 128 GB of storage. The device has a 5.15 inch LCD display that is capable of delivering crisp images at 1080p. It has a 16-megapixel camera sensor provided by Sony. Among some of the other features that were easily identifiable include a physical home button located on the front side at the. The button also doubles up as a fingerprint reader. Images of the device also show a USB Type-C port at the bottom.
The overall design of the MI5 clearly looks unique. Even Apple has acknowledged that the device’s design does not copy the design cues of iPhones such as in some previous Xiaomi smartphones. This means the company has stepped up its game as a serious contender for premium handsets. Though the device was launched at a conference for devices that target the global market, the chances that Xiaomi will launch the MI5 globally are slim.
