GATE 2016 Registration starts at Gate.iisc.ernet.in, new rules introduced
The registrations for the GATE 2016 examination have started today onwards, and will continue till the 1st of October.
For those who don’t know, GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
The exam is mainly aimed at testing the level of understanding the examinees possess in case of a variety of undergrad subjects in fields like architecture, technology, and engineering, and many other post-grad subjects mainly pertaining to science.
The scores of GATE are mainly used during the admission process in various centrally funded institutes in India, where students complete their post-graduation with engineering and science programs.
These institutes are primarily the IITs all over the country and the IISc in Bangalore. Some private colleges also accept GATE score as a medium for enrolling post graduation students.
The IISc mainly organizes the GATE examination every year. Students appearing in this year’s exam will be given the opportunity to challenge their scores if they think that there is any discrepancy, or if they feel they are not entire satisfied with the score issued in their names.

Challenging the score will cost all students a certain fee, but these students are of the opinion that this flexibility allows them to do the needful in terms of properly getting their scores and securing admission at a reputed college. This option has been introduced to stay at par with the JEE or Joint Entrance Examination.
Students can also opt for mock tests on the GATE website this year, which will allow them to develop their technological skills for the exam.
