Donald Trump Jr. Asserts That He Has Virtually Lost Contact With His Father
Donald Trump Jr. was one of the key people in his father’s campaign and the transition. However, the eldest son of President Donald Trump says that he has virtually lost contact with his father since he was sworn in. Together with his brother Eric, they are now in charge of the family’s eponymous businesses following the resignation of their father as government ethics dictates.
However, the role of Trump’s children in his administration has raised concerns. The three adult children sit in meetings with foreign heads of state yet they are still intimately occupied in business deals overseas.
Speaking at the annual Reagan Day dinner in Dallas, which is a key fundraising event for the local Republican group, Trump Jr. stated, “I thought I was out of politics after Election Day and [would] get back to my regular life and my family. But I couldn’t. Deals are still exciting.”
Alarms of massive conflict of interest
The group’s annual Reagan Day dinner was the first political function Trump Jr. was attending since his father’s inauguration. However, it is still not clear what his statement of having zero contact with his father meant. In any case, President Trump relationship with his adult children and the Trump Organization continue are currently under scrutiny.
Apparently, an attorney for Trump had earlier indicated that the president-elect had surrendered any form of leadership and management of the Trump Organization. However, President Trump still holds sole ownership of the trust, a situation that has been questioned by the experts in reference to his official duties.
Trump has not done enough to isolate himself from potential conflicts of interest
Trump’s critics’ claim that the president is still clinging to too much, given that he has still not sold off his shares in the Trump Organization. The US Attorney Preet Bharara had earlier been tasked with investigating whether or not the president was in violation of any emoluments clause.
The investigation request had been imitated by three watchdog groups but in a new twist of events, Bharara abruptly lost his job. Sources have it that he was fired after his refusal to resign. The federal prosecutor has a record of having been so tough on corruption during his nearly eight-year tenure in the President Barack Obama administration.
